What It Is and Where It’s Used
- The sludge dewatering filter press is a special type of filter press equipment. We use it specifically for treating sludge. It works by using mechanical pressure to squeeze the water out of the sludge, separating the solids from the liquid. This equipment is really useful in many places. Sewage treatment plants, industrial wastewater treatment facilities, mining operations, and food processing industries all use it to handle different kinds of sludge.
How It Works
- The sludge dewatering filter press works like this. We use filter plates and filter cloths together. The filter cloths are placed between the filter plates. First, we pump the sludge into the filter chamber. Then, we apply pressure. When we do this, the water in the sludge gets pushed through the filter cloth. This water becomes the filtrate. At the same time, the solid parts of the sludge can’t pass through the filter cloth. They stay behind and form a filter cake. As we keep increasing the pressure, the filter cake gets drier and drier.

Hydrophilic Organic Sludge
- For hydrophilic organic sludge, it’s usually a good idea to do inorganic conditioning. This helps the filter cake come off easily and stops it from sticking to the filter cloth.
Hydrophilic Inorganic Sludge
- When filtering hydrophilic inorganic sludges, we generally need to add lime.
Hydrophobic Inorganic Sludges
- Hydrophobic inorganic sludges are dense. They work well with the filter press. We don’t have to do any pre – treatment or conditioning before dewatering them.
Oily Sludges
- The filter press can handle oily sludges that have light oils. But if there’s grease in the sludge, it can mess up how the filter works. So, we need to clean the grease off the filter cloths regularly.
