What is a Thickener?
A thickener is a vital piece of equipment for solid-liquid separation. It’s mainly used in industries like mining, metallurgy, and chemicals. In industrial production, thickeners are essential because they boost efficiency, save resources, and reduce environmental pollution. They work by using gravity sedimentation to separate solid particles suspended in a liquid. This process concentrates the slurry and clears the liquid.
Types of Thickeners
There are many kinds of thickeners. The most common ones are conventional thickeners, high-efficiency thickeners, and deep cone thickeners. Each type works best in different situations and meets various processing needs.
High-efficiency thickeners, for example, can handle large amounts of material quickly. They make solids settle fast and take up less space. So, they’re perfect for places that need to process a lot of material and concentrate it quickly.
Advantages of Thickener
Enhance Product Texture
Thickeners increase a product’s viscosity, improving its texture and stability. This makes the product more consistent and easier to use.
Boost Product Stability
In food, cosmetics, and coatings, thickeners stop products from separating or settling. This keeps products stable and makes them last longer on the shelf.
Control Costs
Using thickeners wisely lets you cut back on expensive raw materials without sacrificing quality. As a result, you can lower production costs.
Speed Up Production
During some manufacturing processes, thickeners help products move through production faster, boosting the efficiency of the entire production line.
Improve Taste and Appearance
In the food industry, thickeners enhance flavor, making food richer and more appealing to consumers. They also improve the product’s look, making it more attractive.
Prolong Shelf Life
For certain products, thickeners slow down the growth of microbes, which extends how long the products can be stored before going bad.

Classification of Thickeners
Deep Cone Paste Thickeners
These thickeners work great for concentrating different types of concentrates. They can boost the material concentration to over 65%.
Ordinary High-Efficiency Thickeners
Perfect for concentrating various tailings, these thickeners can increase the material concentration beyond 40%.
Intelligent Flocculant Dosing Detection System
This system checks the incoming material concentration and adjusts the flocculant dosage on its own. It can save up to 30% of flocculants.
Features of Thickeners
- Drive Options
We offer three drive setups: single drive, double drive, and four – wheel drive. For thickener pools, here’s how it works:
- Use a single drive for pools 8 – 20 meters in diameter.
- Go for a double drive when the diameter is 20 – 35 meters.
- Choose a four – wheel drive for diameters between 35 – 50 meters.
Automatic Mud Discharge
Our system discharges mud based on torque. This keeps the mud – out process steady. In the tailings industry, for example, you can set it to release mud when the underflow concentration hits 35%.
Flocculant Savings
You can pair our equipment with an automatic flocculant dosing detection system. Together, they cut flocculant use by up to 40%.
Special Flocculation Box
Our thickener comes with a flocculation box. Before the mixture enters the center cylinder, this box makes sure the flocculant fully reacts with the material. When you add flocculant straight into the center cylinder, it often doesn’t react enough, wasting the agent. Our box stops that from happening.

Application Areas of Thickeners
Thickeners find applications in various industries, including sewage treatment, mining, and sand washing.
